Kansas Nebraska Weekend
March 21-23, 2008

In Cawker City I took some new photos of the World's Largest Ball of Twine, and nearby buildings with their reproductions of famous paintings with the ball of twine added.

In Osborne, I revisited the Circle Inn, for a glass of milk and a slice of peanut butter pie. They get to stay on KansasTravel. They have had a rough time with their building. It burned and was rebuilt before my first visit. Since then, they lost their roof to a tornado and had had to repair that.

SMith Center Dutch Mill.
1879 Dutch mill moved to Smith Center from Reamsville, Kansas.

Before crossing into Nebraska, I visited the Higley Cabin on private property off Highway K-8. In 1873, Dr. Brewster Higley wrote the words to "My Western Home" in this cabin. It is better known as "Home, Home on the Range." The cabin is kept unlocked and has a small exhibit behind chicken wire. There is also a guest register and they sell a one sheet with the history of the cabin and the song for a quarter (honor system).
